Senior Vice Provost for Research, The Catholic University of America

Expertise: genetics, biomedical research, mentoring, program building and science policy

Dr. Yost serves as the inaugural Senior Vice Provost for Research (SVPR) at The Catholic University of America. As part of President Kilpatrick’s strategic plan, Dr. Yost will lead efforts to expand and elevate the university from Carnegie R2 status to Carnegie R1 top-tier research university status. His goal as SVPR at CUA is to facilitate and promote research and scholarship across all disciplines.

Dr. Yost’s developmental genetics and embryology studies focus on the fundamental mechanisms that generate biological symmetry and asymmetry, including functional left-right asymmetries in the brain, heart and gut. This has led to the discovery of genetic variants contributing to human congenital heart diseases and rare pediatric diseases, and mechanisms that lead to adult-onset heart disease. Dr. Yost has been recognized by awards from several scholarly societies for his research, mentoring and leadership in national science policy initiatives, including election as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
