Join The Lamp and the Institute for Human Ecology for a conversation with Professor Volker Leppin and IHE Media Fellow Matthew Walther about the difficulties inherent in writing saints’ lives and a discussion of what distinguishes biography from hagiography. The discussion will draw from Professor Leppin’s recent book, Francis of Assisi: The Life of a Restless Saint.

About the speakers:

Volker Leppin is the Horace Tracy Pitkin Professor of Historical Theology at Yale Divinity School and author most recently of Francis of Assissi: The Life of a Restless Saint.

Matthew Walther is editor of The Lamp magazine and a contributing opinion writer at the New York Times. He is currently writing a biography of Saint John Henry Newman for Yale University Press.
