The Fight Is Not Over

By: M.A. Student, Ellie Richards

The M.A. students met with the president of the March for Life and human rights attorney, Jennie Lichter to learn about the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world. The March for Life was founded by Nellie Gray in 1974 in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade to make abortion a constitutional right. Lichter explained that the annual march primarily accomplishes three things—it forms the minds and hearts of young people, who have the power to reorient America’s culture toward life, it renews the determination of those who work tirelessly and quietly to defend the lives of the unborn, and it serves as a powerful public witness.

Since the Dobbs decision, which reversed Roe v Wade in June of 2022, there have been questions about whether the March for Life has served its purpose. Lichter acknowledged that Dobbs marked one critical step in protecting the lives of the unborn, but she argued that the fight did not end there. The March for Life’s mission is to protect human life at the national, state, and cultural levels. And the fight has only just begun.
