Join the Institute for Human Ecology for an event celebrating IHE Executive Director Dr. Russell Hittinger’s latest work, On the Dignity of Society: Catholic Social Teaching and Natural Law (Catholic University of America Press, 2024).
In the work, Hittinger presents Catholic social teaching not only as a defense of the dignity of the human person, but more fundamentally as an elucidation of the dignity of society. Human persons – as naturally familial, political, and ecclesial animals – seek their own perfection in communion.
This volume represents the fruits of Hittinger’s historically important body of work on Catholic moral and social philosophy and theology, rooted in Thomistic natural law theory and animated by the thought of Saint Augustine.
Edited by IHE Scholar Scott Roniger (Associate Professor of Philosophy, Loyola Marymount University), the book includes a foreword by Mary Ann Glendon (Learned Hand Professor of Law Emerita, Harvard Law School, and former United States Ambassador to the Holy See).
This event is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Lonergan Center at Loyola Marymount University.
This event is free and open to the public.
